Teaching God's Word Starts at Home
Christians charged with the mission of teaching God’s Word to the whole world (Matt 28:19-20). This starts at home with our own families. From the beginning, parents were given the responsibility to pass God’s Truth to the next generation.
“You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.”
– Deuteronomy 6:7
Twice weekly Bible classes are wonderful opportunities to plant the seeds of God’s Word, enjoy the encouragement of peers and teachers, and gain new insights. But they are by no means a substitute for Christian parents who discuss the Scripture on a daily basis and embody its virtues in their actions. For this reason, our curriculum is centered on the home rather than Bible class.
Students from Preschool through 5th Grade are studying the entire Bible over a three-year period using the Shaping Hearts For God curriculum. They began in the winter with Genesis (“All Things Made New”), and just concluded “God’s Mighty Hand,” a study of Exodus. This summer, they will be studying “Take Time to Be Holy” (Leviticus, Numbers).
There are daily Bible readings for each lesson that offer a foundation for home study. There is no substitute for the teaching and example our children get in their homes!
Middle School students have studied the books of Daniel and Revelation as well as joining with the High School class for a “Bible Bracket Challenge” this spring. They discussed a field of 64 major Bible characters, their stories, virtues, etc., and advanced them in a tournament in our own version of March Madness. (Congratulations to the apostle Paul for his win over King David in the championship match.) This summer, they will begin a study of Hebrews on Wednesday evenings.
Our High School students are learning to spread the Gospel and reexamining basic Bible principles such as sin, atonement, repentance, salvation, and authority.
The resource that our program needs most of all is MORE TEACHERS at every level. Even if you have no experience, you will be surprised not only how quickly you will become comfortable in the role, but how rewarding it is! We can pair you with an experienced teacher if you are still trepidatious about that first step. Just speak to one of the deacons and we can help you get started.
